We’re closing in on the culmination of everything the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been leading up to since it started in 2008. Because “Avengers: Endgame” is right around the corner, here’s a look back at the rest of the MCU, ranked from bottom to top.
Director M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” releases to theaters this week, marking the conclusion of the trilogy which began with “Unbreakable” in 2000 and continued with 2016’s “Split.”
With another trilogy set to be wrapped up soon, I figured it was a good time to take a look at some of my favorite three-movie franchises. Small disclaimer, film is subjective and art can be difficult to quantify in numbers and data. With that in mind, this top 10 is more a way to organize these trilogies and less a matter of fact.
The new year is here and with 2018 wrapped up, it’s time to take a look back at the best filmmakers had to offer the last 12 months.
Before getting into my top 10, though, here are some honorable mentions that didn’t make the cut.
- Beautiful Boy
- Incredibles 2
- Black Panther
- Sicario: Day of the Soldado
- Boy Erased
- On the Basis of Sex
- At Eternity’s Gate
- First Man
Like all years, Hollywood gives audiences movies that are good, OK and just downright bad. Here’s my take on the latter for the past year.
First up, here are few that didn’t make the cut:
- Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald
- Super Troopers 2
- The Nun
- Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom
It’s the weekend of Han Solo! Tomorrow (or tonight if you’re seeing the early screenings), “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will hit theaters with Alden Ehrenreich portraying a younger version of the iconic character.
As interesting as that film should be, though, this also seems like a good opportunity to take a look back on some of the best scenes with Solo, as portrayed by Harrison Ford.
The first 2017 film I saw was “Resident Evil: Final Chapter” and it turned out to be the worst of the year, so it was all uphill from there. Looking back, it ended up being a solid year at the cinema and now that I’ve seen all the relevant movies, it’s time for my top 10 of 2017.
It’s that wonderful middle of winter time again, where we look to the new year while reflecting on the one that’s about to end.
The year of 2016 is coming to a close and while the past 12 months have certainly offered some cinematic gems, there have been some duds, too. So, here’s a list of the films that were the absolute worst to sit through.
The year 2015 came and went with plenty of fun, exciting and moving pictures along the way. It was such a good year for movies that narrowing down a top 10 list was actually pretty difficult.
The first “Divergent” was mediocre at best. It’s direct sequel doesn’t even reach that level, though, as “Insurgent” came off as a complete mess. Despite lead actress Shailene Woodley’s best attempts, her dialogue remains weak and the story structure is terrible. Additionally, co-star Theo James is lifeless on screen and Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is wasted in the role of an ineffectual villain.
