Movie Report: Production companies across Hollywood delay several projects

The coronavirus pandemic is causing several major studios to freeze production on a variety of movies.

At Disney, for example, James Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel has stopped work, while the live action “Little Mermaid” production has been postponed, according to Deadline Hollywood. Other projects under the Disney umbrella, including Marvel’s “Shang-Chi,” 20th Century Studios’ “The Last Duel” by Ridley Scott, and Searchlight Pictures’ “Nightmare Alley” by Guillermo del Toro, have all been pushed back.

Deadline also reports that Universal Pictures has halted the next “Jurassic World” production, and has also put a sports drama titled “Flint Strong” on hiatus. Warner Bros., meanwhile, has halted work on “Matrix 4,” “The Batman” and “Fantastic Beasts 3,” Deadline states.

Deadline also found that A24’s “Macbeth” movie by Joel Coen, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand has also been halted.

At Sony Pictures, meanwhile, the entire slate of finished, upcoming films has been changed,according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Greyhound,” starring Tom Hanks, an adaptation to the video game “Uncharted,” and the sequel to “Peter Rabbit 2” have all been postponed. “Uncharted” has been moved from March 2021 to October 2021, while “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” has been switched from July 10 to Marrch of next year.

“Greyhound,” a World War II drama has no date now, while “Peter Rabbit 2” has moved from August to next January, THR reports.

With theaters closed, several movies have also been made available for streaming. Here’s what audiences have to work with:
