Monday Movie Report: Globes select Jeff Bridges for Cecil B. DeMille award

Acting legend Jeff Bridges has been selected as the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The honor will be given to Bridges during the 76th Golden Globe Awards, scheduled for Jan. 6, 2019. Bridges is well known for his work in pictures such as “The Big Lebowski,” “True Grit” and “Crazy Heart.” For the latter, Bridges won a Golden Globe and later, an Academy Award.

According to Variety, Bridges earned his first Globe nomination in 1984 for his work in “Starman.” More recently, he earned a nomination in 2017 for his work in “Hell or High Water.”

Variety reports that the Cecil B. DeMille, the Globes’ de facto lifetime achievement award, is selected by the HFPA’s Board of Directors. The awards are given to people who’ve made a “lasting impact on the world of entertainment,” according to Variety.

The past few recipients include Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington and George Clooney.
